Mediterranean cuisine
Lots of vegetables, fruit and fish – the Mediterranean cuisine is known for delicious, healthy food that likes to be enjoyed in meals that may last over two hours.
Rock climbing
The Montserrat Massif is a rock climbing paradise with climbs for different levels of expertise. The south wall alone displays 5000 different possibilities of ascending, boasting 1500 safety anchors and up to 300m vertical walls.
Horseback riding
There are various horse farms in a less than10km radius that offer reasonably priced riding lessons or group excursions on horseback. We particularly recommend the horse farm “Finca Serra Burgés” in La Torre de Claramunt.
Bike and Mountain bike trips
The most frequent passers-by that you can see from your breakfast table in Can Gramunt will probably be cyclists. The network of dirt tracks and paths through hills and fields seems endless, and the narrow country roads in the area are quiet enough to be able to enjoy a bike ride without too much traffic.
Hiking and Jogging
You can head into any direction without being disappointed (unless you expect to see the Grand Canyon). A twenty minute walk will take you through fields and vineyards over a small bridge over the Agost river and into La Torre de Claramunt.
Santa Càndia – Waterfall bathing experience
The nearby stream has washed deep basins into the rocks at a distance of less than fifteen minutes by car – or two hours of relaxed hiking – from Can Gramunt. The narrow road leads you to the small deserted village of Santa Càndia, where you can park the car right next to the church. The path that leads you alongside the castle of Orpí and up the river to the waterfalls is a bit adventurous and not ideal for people that are afraid of heights.
Costa Daurada
The Costa Daurada (golden coast) starts at the Garraf Massif south of Barcelona, stretching down to the Province capital Tarragona and on until the Ebro delta in southern Catalonia. The coast offers long sandy beaches and shallow, clear water, but also a few almost untouched coves flanked by rocky cliffs and pine trees. It’s not the Caribbean, but ideal for relaxing, sunbathing and snorkeling. The nearest beach towns that can be reached from Can Gramunt in half an hours’ drive are Sitges and Vilanova i la Geltrú. The more secluded beaches close to Tarragona are slightly further away.
Hiking in the Montserrat Nature Park
The Montserrat Mountain, with its Benedictine monastery, is only half an hours’ drive away from Can Gramunt. The massif forms part of the beautiful views from your holiday home, and with every kilometre that you approach, the sight of the 1,236 meter high Mountain becomes increasingly impressive. The monastery can be reached either by road or by cable car, from which you can ascend further by funicular or you can put on your boots right there, to continue the hike on the marked paths of the nature park. Once you get to the top, your efforts will be rewarded with overwhelming views over Catalonia.
