The valleys surrounding Can Gramunt have had a paper making tradition for hundreds of years. At the “Riera de Carme” stream as well as at the Anoia river, which gives the region its name, sixteen of these impressive paper mill buildings can be found in a radius of only fifteen kilometres.
During the 18th and 19thcenturies, these paper mills made up one of the most important paper producing centres in Spain. Paper was exported to all of Europe and especially South America. A paper museum can be found in the small town of Capellades, right next to La Torre de Claramunt, which is well worth a visit for adults and children alike. www.mmp-capellades.net
